Coldplay' The Scientist' Staple Concert Song of the Band?

Speaking to Apple Music Hits' Zane Lowe, Coldplay revealed that their single "The Scientist" from their sophomore album, "A Rush of Blood To The Head," had a special spot for them the first time they heard it.

Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman detailed the time when frontman Chris Martin asked him to listen to a track, which turned out to be "The Scientist," for the first time ever.

"Just on the little upright piano, he just played and sang the whole song from beginning to end, and it was kind of finished. We were like, 'Oh wow, OK. That's really great'. I think we all felt a bit nervous because we were like, 'Wow, this is so great," the bassist told Chris.

At the time, Berryman was curious about how they could add instruments to the already amazing track.

"The Scientist" only peaked at No. 10 on the UK Singles Chart, while its parent album, "A Rush of Blood To The Head," debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart.

Aside from Berryman, Coldplay drummer Will Champion also recalled the time he first heard the track being played.

"When I heard ['The Scientist'] for the first time, [it was] just like, 'OK, that's going to be one we're going to play forever, for sure'," Champion elaborated.

According to NME, "The Scientist" is still included on the setlist of the band's "Music of the Speheres" World Tour 2022.
