Lewis Capaldi has hinted that he has "plenty of melancholy ballads under his sleeve" as he delivers the more cheery "Forget Me." While the tune is livelier than "Someone You Loved," he explained though that the lyrics are as sentimental. He added that the new tune is actually a lot like his "lovemaking."

Still despite the faster tempo, he described the lyrics as being so "textbook" -- singing about a girl he likes not liking him back.

The 25-year-old Scottish superstar has released his first new music in three years, and he has joked that he hopes it would prevent listeners who are tired of his heartache songs from dozing off during his shows.
He stated that true, the new song is so much more energetic and cheerful in tune that his first hits, but this is because he just toured the world and saw how his other really slow songs can make people fall asleep.

"However, this new one is sad and fast, much like my lovemaking. Not to worry, I've still got plenty of depressing ballads up my sleeve," he shared.

Because he was anxious to go to the bar, the 'Someone You Loved' hitmaker wrote the lyrics in just two hours.

He said: "I actually had tickets to go and see Scotland vs Croatia at the Euros. I thought, you know, let's hurry up and write this song so I can go to the pub. Maybe I should do that more often in the future as I wasn't overthinking anything! It only took two hours or so."

Although it has a livelier sound, the song is still about coping with a breakup.

Lewis is mentioned in the WIRED section of the Daily Star newspaper as saying, "Let's be honest, lyrically it covers a lot of the same ground as before.

He meets a woman, she rejects him, and he complain about it in a new song. It's very textbook, he says.
He explained that the song is about a breakup that he personally went through in which, after a year, the only actual contact he had with his ex was seeing her "post-Capaldi" life unfold on Instagram.
He added that its unfair to see her so happy and so well, while he's still wallowing about the pain of the breakup.

The BRIT Award-winning artist's debut album, "Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent," was released in 2019 and sold more over 10 million copies worldwide.

Lewis has recently been diagnosed with Tourette's condition and has pledged to leave the public eye if his new song fails to perform well.
