Hayley Williams no longer feels heavy about the controversial lyrics of Paramore's "Misery Business." It used to define her, and she struggled with the thought that others are viewing her a certain way because of it.

In 2018, the lead singer of Paramore said that the band would no longer perform their 2007 breakthrough single live owing to the anti-feminist lyrics "once a w**re, you're nothing more" in the second stanza.

Hayley said in an interview with The Guardian that the lyrics she composed at age 17 weighed "quite heavily" on her for years, but she now feels better about them. She explained that it was only since they have felt lighter about the band do I not feel defined by that song.

She prefers to think of the times they bring a fan on stage to sing the song with them during live performances. she said it was these light and fun moments that she believes defines the band, not these dramas and the question if she's truly a feminist just because of these contentious lyrics.
