Eddie Murphy has reportedly agreed to increase the amount of his monthly child support for his daughter with Spice Girls member Mel B from $25,000 to $35,000.
Two years after the English singer filed papers requesting additional financial assistance for Murphy's monthly child support, reports added. She claimed that it was due to a change in income and financial hardship.
The pair share a 15-year-old daughter, Angel Murphy Brown, who resides with the 47-year-old singer.
According to reports, the court ruled in favor of the increase, citing that "yesterday's price is not today's price." According to court documents obtained by the Daily Mail, both parties also agreed that Murphy is an "extraordinarily high earner."
The payments will be made retroactively beginning from October 2021 until Angel turns 18 years old.
'Love At First Sight'
The Hollywood actor and singer first met in 2006.
Mel B, born Melanie Janine Brown, claimed that their fated meeting was "love at first sight." She wrote about their encounter in her 2018 memoir, "Brutally Honest": "It was as if a 2,000-volt electric current had passed between us."
According to her interview with Essence Magazine in 2007, the pair decided to conceive in December 2006. It did not take long before Mel B fell pregnant with their daughter.
"It happened quicker than we expected but it was perfect timing," she said. "This was a completely planned pregnancy. This wasn't some random 'Oops, I fell over and I'm pregnant.' I don't live my life like that. I'm a responsible parent and have been a responsible single parent since I got divorced."
However, despite her claims that they both wanted to have a baby together, Murphy questioned the paternity of the unborn child. This comes six months after their initial meeting.
This was followed by a hardy paternity dispute between the two which began 2009, and concluded in 2017.
"I don't know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test. You shouldn't jump to conclusions," Murphy reportedly told a reporter.
Ironically, Angel was born on Murphy's 46th birthday, Apr. 3, 2007. And while it took quite a while for the actor to come around, reports say that he and his daughter are now inseparable.
"They all have a very good relationship [...] He always makes sure to get them involved with Angel. [...] She texts Eddie and is on the phone with him all the time. She loves her dad," said a source close to them.
Angel is not Murphy's only child. He has several children. In addition to Angel, he shares five with Nichole Mitchell, a son with Paulette McNeely, another son with Tamara Hood, and two with his current fiance Paige Butcher.
