Dolly Parton is gearing up for the Christmas season with several new holiday projects, and in her recent interview with Better Homes & Gardens, she was referred to as the "new queen of Christmas."

"Now, don't you say that!" Parton said, "I'm not going to compete with Mariah."

She is referring to Mariah Carey, the icon behind everyone's go-to Christmas song "All I Want For Christmas Is You."

The song comes from her "Merry Christmas" album, released in 1995, and is one of the best-selling singles of all time.

Perhaps this is why Parton conceded to second, after Carey, "I love her. You think of Christmas, you think of Mariah. I'm happy to be second in line to her."

'Queens of Christmas'

Carey responded to the 76-year-old singer, tweeting, "Dolly, let's settle this one-You are the Queen of Everything! The Queen of the World, The Queen of Christmas, The Queen of Mine! Love you!"

Parton responded to Carey, "I will always love you," with a red heart emoji.

While the pair seemingly settled on who really is the queen of the holiday, according to reports, Carey filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in hopes of legally marketing herself as the "Queen of Chrismas" in March 2021.

Instead of arguing, Carey and Parton's fans suggested that the two should collaborate. One fan noted that Parton had bottles of Carey's fragrances in her tour bus.

"Mariah! Dolly uses your fragrances on her tour bus tour in [Dollywood]! It's a sign! I recognized them immediately! We need a collaboration from the butterfly queens!"

"I mean, I think the only answer is a collaboration album with some amazing duets...Because that way, we all win...I think it would cause world peace, and unite America in a way that has never been able to happen before...Let's make this happen!" Another tweeted.

Christmas Collab?

According to Billboard, Parton is preparing to rerelease her "A Holly Dolly Christmas" album, which will include four new songs-including a duet with Miley Cyrus, her goddaughter.

On top of that, she collaborated with "Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon for a special holiday song, "Almost Too Early For Christmas."

Adding to her long list of holiday treats, Parton will also gathered some singers to perform in celebration of the holiday season. "Dolly Parton's Mountain Magic Christmas," a musical movie is set to premiere sometime soon.

Meanwhile, there is no word on what Carey has in store for the Christmas season.
