Thursday night in Winnipeg, Arcade Fire continued their tour-long tradition of playing "hometown" music specifically tailored to each show.

They've recently stolen fans' cell phones in L.A. while playing "Been Caught Stealing," and rocked out to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in the Seattle area.

The Winnipeg crowd didn't get music from a hometown kid, per sé, but Neil Young is close enough; AF covered the legendary singer's "Come On Baby Let's Go Downtown" in honor of Young's frequent Winnipeg shows at the beginning of his career (He's originally from Toronto). Frontman Win Butler sported a giant paper mache Pope Francis head while bandmates Will Butler and Tim Kingsbury traded off vocals.

Here's the video:

Despite being from completely different eras, Arcade Fire (from Montreal) and Young have developed a relationship over the years.

Rolling Stone points out that Win and Neil performed a Butler-written song ("I Dreamed a Neil Young Song") at Young's Bridge School Benefit last October. The "Heart of Gold" singer also gave the band some advice after a joint Thanksgiving dinner two years ago, when AF was busy recording 2013's Reflektor.

"It was the end of the night and we were leaving," Win Butler told Rainn Wilson in an interview for Soul Pancake. "And he's like, 'Well, guys, have fun making your album. Or it can not be fun at all, that's fine too. Doesn't matter if it's fun.'

"There's conflict that's supposed to be in making something good," Butler said. "There's, like, inherent conflict. It's not something to be scared of."
