The recent string of violence against rappers has left several rappers looking behind their shoulders, and 21 Savage is one of them. The rapper opened up about being paranoid after his own near-death experience.

The 30-year-old rapper made his appearance at "Off The Record Podcast" with DJ Akademiks where he revealed that the rising number of violence and deaths that rappers have been subjected to has left him more cautious than ever.

"I'm scared of everybody, n***a [...] I move scared," he told the podcast host. "Hell yeah, I'm scared. Scared n***as stay alive. 'Cause I done seen it. I'm not one of them n****s who just... n****, I been shot. I seen my friend die, in my face, on my birthday. In the car, too. [sic]"

He shared an instance when he and a friend were simply standing on the block when they were attacked, elaborating that he was in the passenger seat when his friend was shot and killed.

This near-death experience has left him scarred for life, and the recent number of rappers getting killed and shot at did not help.

'Paranoid 24/7'

The rapper also added that he goes as far as taking extra precautions when he returns to his house, just to make sure he is not being followed.

"I know like, n***a, this shit get wicked fast, like that, you know what I'm saying? So it's like, I'm just paranoid always, 24/7, n***a. I think somebody following me. I'm spinning the block a couple of times before I go in the house, [sic]" he continued.

Elsewhere in the interview, he talked about the recent death of Migos member Takeoff, who was shot and killed in a bowling alley in Texas earlier this month.

Takeoff's death sent shockwaves in the hip-hop community, given that it was so sudden and he was so well-loved by his peers.

"It's the worst one," 21 Savage said of Takeoff's death. "I don't know if it's 'cause I know him more than I know them, but this is one of them ones where it's like, 'Damn! Him?!' N***as say that every time, but he really one of them ones like, 'Damn! What the f**k?!'"

Incidentally, 21 Savage made a joint album with Canadian rapper, Drake and released their album "Her Loss" days after his friend's death.

He explained why: "It was just so much going on, like so much negative, sad energy. "We was just like, 'Maybe this will give muthaf**kas a smile or a lift-up, give the world a lift-up, something to look forward to,' type s**t."
