John Rzeznik celebrates his 57th birthday today and is thankful that he still does what he loves to do the most, making music and singing.

The Goo Goo Dolls founder and frontman has faced several challenges throughout his life, some of which were more serious than others.

In an interview with USA Today, he reflected on the inspiration behind the Goo Goo Dolls' most recent album, "Chaos in Bloom," which was written and produced during the height of the pandemic.

Rzeznik noted that making music for the new album proved to be more difficult than he expected. It was more difficult to overcome than Covid-19, even, the report noted.

However, this was mostly due to the injuries he had sustained: "I had a nick on my vocal cord and I tore a ligament in my elbow."

"I had to stay completely silent for two weeks. I'm sitting there going, 'Oh, my God. I have no other skills! I can't go get a job,'" he added jokingly.

Should he have not recovered from his vocal cord injury, he would have retired, but thanks to "massive doses of Prednisone" and vocal rest, he was able to bounce back.

Aside from personal problems, Rzeznik struggled with coming to terms with the pandemic and the lockdown, which he shared with Leo.

"That was kind of anxiety-provoking. Then the politicization of the whole situation was crazy," he said. "And then, in the midst of all of this, there's this enormous social justice movement that had to thrust itself into action."

He then added that it was this "chaos" that brought him to make more music, "That sets up the stage for the album. I'm sitting around the house and I'm doing what I can, and I started to get very, very anxious, like, 'Am I ever going to work again? Am I ever going to be able to get out there?'"

Although Rzeznik says he struggled to work with the new normal, he made it seem effortless. "Chaos in Bloom" was released in August 2022, and it is marked as Goo Goo Dolls' thirteenth studio album.

With several years of making music and performing under his belt, Rzeznik has an estimated $12 million net worth, reports say.

It also seems like he got to save his coin when he was producing "Chaos in Bloom," as he had reportedly produced the album by himself.

He described what it was like producing a full album: "Hopefully, most of your writing is done by the time you get to producing it. But, to me, producing, it's like, how can I use all this machinery to capture a moment?"
