Lily Allen took the post of "chief nepo baby defender" as she claimed that "nepo babies" were raised by "narcissistic" parents, and that people should look out for those who work in the fields of politics, legal firms, and banks instead of coming for the celebrity "nepo babies."

Without anyone asking for her opinion on the matter, Allen tweeted: If we're talking about real-world consequences and robbing people of opportunity. but that's none of my business."

This comes after weeks-maybe even years-of netizens discussing the repercussions of having "nepo babies" in the industry, and how it affects the chances of lesser-known stars rising.

The term "nepo baby" refers to a child of a famous celebrity or simply a high-status individual who also gets the same perks as their parents due to nepotism, as per the Urban Dictionary.

While some might not be aware, both the film and music industries are filled with nepo babies, like Dakota Johnson, Maya Hawke, Zoe Kravitz, Lily-Rose Depp, and Allen herself-whose parents are actor Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen, reports say.

Allen has made a name for herself in the music industry in 2005 after uploading some recordings of her singing on Myspace, which resulted in airplay on BBC Radio 1 and a contract with Regal Recordings.

The Defense

After receiving backlash and criticism from her first tweet, Allen doubled down on why she thinks celebrity nepo babies should be given a chance.

"I do feel that nepo babies are being somewhat scapegoated here though, there is a wider, societal conversation to be had about wealth inequality, about lack of programs and funding, and I guess that was the point I was trying to make, maybe badly," she wrote.

"I promise you I'm not rooting for an industry full of people that had childhoods that looked like mine. I just really think that we can't get to a real solution without identifying the real problem, as fun as it is to laugh at the kids of famous people. Nepo babies have feelings."

In addition to that, the singer said that nepo babies actually "crave stability, love, and nurturing."

"We don't care about money or proximity to power yet. Many of the nepo babies are starved of these basic things in childhood as their parents are probably narcissistic," she claimed.

Allen noted that despite her privileged upbringing, she and her brother, Alfie Allen, were not always so fortunate in their personal lives.

However, netizens still denounced Allen and her claims. They are adamant that nepo babies, regardless from which field should be canceled, and should work their way up just like others.
