John Mayer has addressed the rumor that "Your Body Is a Wonderland" was written for a famous person.
Widespread speculation has it that the singer's Grammy-winning sophomore single was about actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, as they dated around the time the song was released in 2002.
During an appearance on the podcast "Call Her Daddy," John stated that he created the song before he had ever met a celebrity.
He stated that the song was about his first girlfriend. When he penned it, he was just 21 and wistful of his youth.
When the host, Alex Cooper, revealed she had always believed it was about an unnamed celebrity, he responded that this refers to one of those instances in which people's perceptions have been reinforced through time.
Before writing this song, he said he had never met a superstar.
For her part, it can be remembered that Hewitt has always maintained that she's not so vain, and does not think Mayer wrote the song about her. "My body is far from a wonderland. My body is more like a pawnshop. There's a lot of interesting things put together, and if you look closely you'd probably be excited, but at first glance, not so much," Hewitt told Entertainment Weekly in 2007.

Elsewhere in the interview, the 45-year-old disclosed that he lacked a "alpha" jock mindset in high school.
In the same interview, Cooper addressed the "Dead & Company" singer about his childhood, artistic approach, and six-year sobriety journey during their hour-long chat.
Cooper brought up Mayer's reputation as a "fuckboy" before the word was even coined, but she did not question him on any particular woman he was publicly linked to between the mid-2000s and the 2010s (aside from Swift, that list includes Katy Perry, Jessica Simpson, Minka Kelly, Jennifer Aniston, and even Kim Kardashian). However, after years of being labeled a jerk, it appears that Mayer has gained (although questionable) hindsight on that period of his career and has nailed his response to all of his detractors.
This seems that Mayer has abandoned his plan to date every beautiful lady in Hollywood and is instead taking things day by day.
Despite Mayer's best behavior throughout the interview, his and Cooper's unanticipated collaboration has triggered a fight on Twitter, with some Swifties accusing Mayer of being a predator. Time will tell whether Cooper will be able to extinguish this cyber blaze he started.
