Maxi Jazz, the lead singer of the British electronic band Faithless, was found dead in his bed. He was 65 years old.

The group took to social media to share the devastating news with their fans, "We are heartbroken to say Maxi Jazz died last night. He was a man who changed our lives in so many ways."

"He gave proper meaning and message to our music. He was a lovely human being with time for everyone and a wisdom that was both profound and accessible. It was an honor and, of course, a true pleasure to work with him."

Although many speculated on what caused the singer-songwriter's untimely demise, the group noted in their announcement that the frontman "died peacefully in his sleep."

Legacy

Maxi Jazz, born Maxwell Fraser, hailed from London, England, and was a jack of all trades when it came to music.

He was a singer, songwriter, musician, and DJ. Aside from these feats, he also happened to be the founder of the Soul Food Cafe System.

Although he has many things going on for him, he was best known for his role in Faithless, which was active from 1995 to 2011 and 2015 to 2016.

He, along with his members Rollo Armstrong, Sister Bloss, and Jamie Cotto took inspiration from music all over the place and created a unique sound that was described as "folk-house-hip-hop-blues-ambience-jazz-rap for the dance floor and sofa," AP reported.

The band released their debut album "Reverence" in 1996 and their most recent and seventh album, "All Blessed," was released in 2020.

Although Faithless was not as prominent as other bands, they had a solid and faithful fanbase who loved their music.

According to Billboard, "Reverence" had a slow start, but people eventually caught up with it which brought Faithless global prominence; and their succeeding albums, "Outrospective" and "Forever Faithless" are some of their most popular releases.

Jazz's sudden death brought in an outpour of support and love from fellow DJs and fans who took to social media.

"A lovely guy, again who has gone too soon, but finally Maxi you can get some sleep. R.I.P Maxi Big Love UB40," UB40 wrote.

DJ Dave Pearce wrote about Jazz's passing: "So sad to learn Maxi Jazz has passed away. Faithless were an iconic force in UK dance music from the mid-90s and touched so many lives. Throughout their meteoric rise to fame Maxi remained a warm, cool, friendly soul - dance music's poet - thoughts with his family and friends RIP."
