After scoring her biggest legal win yet with the Tory Lanez felony assault trial, it looks like the odds are heavily in favor of Megan Thee Stallion as she scored a small early victory on her 1501 Entertainment lawsuit.
Earlier this year, the "Savage" rapper embarked on a legal battle with her former label, 1501 Entertainment, accusing them of declassifying her album "Something For Thee Hotties."
Per the label, "Something For Thee Hotties" did not meet the qualification her contract requires for it to be considered an album.
In a recent Rolling Stone report, the Texas judge presiding on the album dispute case ruled in favor of Megan Thee Stallion.
1501 apparently entered a request for a pre-trial ruling for the said album, saying that the project doesn't qualify as an album as defined by Megan's signed 2018 contract. Simply, the label wanted the judge to outright define the project as not an album, and not enter a grueling trial.
However, the judge ruled this out, favoring Megan, who wants to take this to trial.
After the request was submitted to the judge, Megan, all while being embroiled in a felony assault trial with Tory Lanez, argued that she fully complied with the terms of the contract for the said project - pushing that she deserves all the chance to argue it in a trial.
Per AllHipHop, Megan Thee Stallion claims that the label was "apprised of developments" ahead of the project's release. They were even provided a link for the project days ahead of the actual release.
Megan pointed out that the label "asserted no objection" before the release, and only received complaints months after it was released.
Megan argued in her response filing that the freestyles and skits that were included in the compilation album, although released on social media, were never commercially sold - countering the argument of the label that the album was short of unreleased material, thereby falling short on the stipulated album specifications in the contract.
The lawsuit, costing $1 million in damages, will proceed on trial as scheduled. It came days after a Los Angeles court ruled that Tory Lanez was found guilty of three felony counts on the 2020 incident he had with the female rapper. Lanez is facing 22 years in prison if he would be sentenced to the maximum capacity.
