Twenty One Pilots' Tyler Joseph shared a heartfelt post noting how creating "Scaled and Icy" became the musical duo's "toughest era."

Joseph and the band's other half, Josh Dun, released the follow-up of its fifth studio album, "Trench," five months later. In May 2021, "Scaled and Icy" was formally presented to their fans.

Twenty One Pilots ultimately won the Top Rock Album at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards, outshining Coldplay, AJR, Imagine Dragons, and John Mayer. Although it highlighted the band's talent and skills, its frontman revealed why and how it became "one of the toughest eras of touring ever"

On Instagram, Joseph said "Scaled and Icy" was made "in a time of uncertainty."

"live shows were always an important part of our dna as a band," he wrote. "we probably wouldn't even exist with out them. we always wrote songs for the show, never the other way around. but i always wondered what it would be like to write a record that never existed in a concert setting."

After trying, Twenty One Pilots found themselves performing in 71 shows across 14 countries. With that, the lyrics of "Scaled and Icy" became something different. After the album came to life, he realized that the band and songs needed live music.

He ended his post by thanking their fans and the band's crew for supporting them throughout the tour.

Tyler Joseph Shares Special Moment With Josh Dun

Amid the struggles, Joseph reflected on the special moment he had with Josh Dun.

Ahead of their MTV Unplugged show in 2022, he shared a post revealing how the preparation made him and Dun feel closer than ever. He noted that they both challenged themselves and practiced everything together.

"I'm being a little dramatic, but I'm proud of him," he continued. "And I am proud of the result. But I think it's the time spent preparing together that will mean the most."

Dun was not part of the original lineup. Joseph initially worked together with Nick Thomas and Chris Salih until the duo left in 2011.

He was first heard in the remixed interpretation of "Con te partirò (Time to Say Goodbye)" by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman.
