Incubus bassist Ben Kenney revealed what exactly happened to him and that the band needed to find a replacement for him recently.

Fans from Louisiana, Texas, and Costa Rica received bad news from Incubus this week after the band announced that Kenney would not be able to perform with them. Its statement on Twitter said the bassist needs time to recuperate after a "recent medical procedure."

The band did not detail what type of operation the musician received. But the bassist recently shared further details about his health in a social media post.

What Happened to Ben Kenney?

On his Instagram page, Kenney posted a photo of his shaved head with a stitched-up scar where his doctors operated on. He then revealed that he had surgery to have his brain tumor removed.

"Unfortunately last year I found out I had a brain tumor," he said. "As soon as I got home from tour I had a successful operation to have it removed. This year I am taking some time away from touring & social media to recover."

Kenney also acknowledged Tal Wilkenfeld as his replacement while he is away.

While his absence breaks his fans' hearts, he offered a heartfelt message to them, saying that he would always be at the shows in spirit. He also expressed how much he misses everyone already before wishing everyone good health.

Wilkenfeld, on the other hand, confirmed that he would fill in at Picnic Festival in Costa Rica on Jan. 28, Corpus Christi on Jan. 31, San Antonio on Feb. 2, Houston on Feb. 3, and New Orleans on Feb. 4.

Cleveland Clinic explains that brain tumors can be malignant or benign. A brain tumor refers to an abnormal growth or mass of cells in or around a person's brain. This type of tumor, including a spinal tumor, is called a central nervous system (CNS) tumor.

It remains unknown whether Kenney's brain tumor was cancerous or not. But only one-third of brain tumor cases are cancerous.

Amid his health battle and recovery, fans sent heartfelt messages to Kenney and wished Incubus a good luck in its shows.

Kenney has been part of Incubus since 2003, following the departure of the band's bass guitarist and founding member, Alex Katunich (Dirk Lance).
