Fleetwood Mac members' relationships with one another were not ideal behind the scenes.
Like any other band in the world, Fleetwood Mac also saw members come and go. Despite that, the band saw success in the music industry.
But amid its fame and popularity, the members also had to deal with personal issues as they seemingly hated each other during the peak of their careers.
It turned out that the members' feuds were largely caused by love and drugs.
Los Angeles Times noted that after Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham broke up around the time they were working on their album, "Rumors," the project became filled with jabs between them. For what it's worth, the album contained the tracks "Go Your Own Way," "Dreams," "Never Going Back Again," and "Second Hand News."
Things got more intense when Nicks had an affair with the band's founder, Mick Fleetwood.
In an interview during her appearance on Oprah's Master Class, she said, "Mick and I would never have had an affair had we not had a party and all been completely drunk and messed up and coked out, and, you know, ended up being the last two people at the party."
Tension grew between the members when Christine McVie also had an affair with the band's sound engineer, Martin Birch. He was fired afterward but did not split with McVie, causing him to feud with John McVie.
How Drugs Affected Fleetwood Mac Members' Relationship
Apart from lovesick stories, Fleetwood Mac's issues were also rooted in the members' drug usage.
In a 1984 interview with Rolling Stone, McVie said Nicks developed "her own fantasy world." Meanwhile, Fleetwood told Classic Rock in 2021 that the band's drug issue affected their career.
"That went on for a long, long time, Stevie Nicks has addressed it, so I'm not divulging anything that she hasn't spoken about. It got out of hand way after the making of 'Rumours.' I remember not working for two years. I can't even remember what I did," he continued.

Fleetwood Mac's issues resurfaced after Fleetwood said during an interview at the Grammys (via Los Angeles Times) that he would say the band is already done. He, however, clarified that Fleetwood's disbandment is currently "unthinkable."
As of press time, the surviving and active members remain busy with their personal and solo endeavors.
