Are Cher and Alexander "AE" Edwards getting married soon?

Fans have been waiting to hear wedding bells after Cher shared on her Twitter account in December a photo of a pear-shaped diamond ring she received from Edwards. She did not clarify whether she was already engaged, but her followers had been expecting to receive good news from the couple.

Weeks after the buzz started, a source told a news outlet that Cher and Edwards are not getting married anytime soon.

In an exclusive statement to People, the source said that while the couple is "very much in love," they do not have plans on taking their relationship to the next level yet. The insider also noted that they were inseparable during their appearance at a pre-Grammys party over the weekend.

"They held hands all night and were very lovey-dovey and kissing often," the source said. "They're not talking marriage or anything like that, but they are exclusive and serious."

Cher was reportedly smiling the entire time she was with her beau, who stayed with her throughout the night.

The source also spoke about their age gap, saying the 76-year-old musician likes the fact that Edwards is young.

For what it's worth, the "If I Could Turn Back Time" hitmaker previously dated younger men, including Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise.

Cher Says "Age Gap Does Not Matter"

Cher and Edwards have a nearly 40-year age gap. The singer, on the other hand, said in a since-deleted tweet that "love doesn't know math."

One music industry source noted in January that the age difference is a plus and not an issue for Cher.

She also opened up about it during her appearance on "The Kelly Clarkson Show" on Dec. 20. Per the singer, they get along in real life as Edwards is a great person. She also called him a fabulous person.

Meanwhile, another source said Edwards helped her "ease the pain of the loss" following the death of Cher's mother, Georgia Holt, in December. At that time, Cher revealed that the matriarch had been sick off and on.

Cher's possible marriage to Edwards in the future will be her third, following her previous marriages with Sonny Bono and Gregg Allman. Her second husband died years after he was diagnosed with hepatitis C and underwent a liver transplant.
