Queen's late frontman, Freddie Mercury, left a whopping amount at the time of his death.

Mercury and other Queen's founding members - Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon - enjoyed success despite the band's ups and lows since its founding year in 1970. Although its frontman's death led to Queen's monumental success to come to a standstill, its members garnered whopping net worths through the years.

Freddie Mercury Left Whopping Amount Before Death

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Freddie Mercury's net worth reached $50 million upon his death when he was 45 years old. A huge part of the total, $40 million, came from his real estate (based on the inflation-adjusted equivalent).

The remaining finances came from his liquid assets.

But the question is, where did his money go after his passing?

Although Mercury's family was still there, his longtime friend and almost-wife, Mary Austin, received a huge part of his net worth and his home.

Only a quarter of his net worth and future income belongs to his parents. The other quarter, meanwhile, goes to his sister Kashimira Bulsara.

Mercury considered Mary Austin as his common-law wife, although he soon accepted his sexuality and spent the last years of his life with Jim Hutton. The former hairdresser and Mercury's other friends received around $600,000 from him.

Among these people, only Mary Austin knows where Mercury's ashes are placed.

The "Bohemian Rhapsody" hitmaker also once said, "All my lovers asked me why they couldn't replace Mary, but it's simply impossible. The only friend I've got is Mary, and I don't want anybody else. To me, she was my common-law wife. To me, it was a marriage."

Per Mercury, she would have been his wife and his fortunes would be hers if things had been different between them.

As of 2023, Mary Austin has 75 percent of Mercury's total net worth, while 25 percent goes to his sister. New Zealand Herald noted that the singer's former lover received $75 million in royalties following the release of his biopic, "Bohemian Rhapsody," in 2018. She is not directly involved in the filming, but she gave her go signal to make the biopic.

Mary Austin also has his London home, which is currently worth around $33 million.

Although Mercury spent his last years with Hutton, he said he could not fall in love with a man the same way he did with her.
