Dolly Parton has been repeatedly tapped to become a judge in "American Idol," but the singing competition show never had her on the chair throughout its over 2-decade run.

The original "American Idol" started in 2002, with Ryan Seacrest as the host and Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Paula Abdul as judges. There have been changes in the judges' lineup, and Parton has been one of the top picks for the position.

However, she rejected them several times.

Why Dolly Parton Never Became a Judge on "American Idol"?

The 77-year-old "Coat of Many Colors" revealed the real reason why she turned down the offers from "American Idol" - even "The Voice" - during an interview with Taste of Country.

Per Parton, she always received an invitation every season, but she refused every attempt as she thought she would not be able to say "no" to people.

"I get asked every season to be on," Parton shared. "I really have trouble judging people. I would have a lot of trouble telling them yes or no - especially no. Sometimes I will [be on] as a mentor or something like that. But yeah, I get offers all the time."

The "There Was Jesus" singer added that, although she does not join the shows as a judge, she remains a fan of them, especially whenever she hears contestants singing her songs.

Still, it is reportedly tough for her to see singers getting voted out after performing her tracks.

Dolly Parton Plans To Create Her Own Talent Show?

In an interview with Forbes, Parton revealed her plans to start her own network and feature movies and programs on it.

As she plans for her future, she also revealed how happy she is with her life as it gets better every day.

"I've been very blessed and I've always wondered what life would be if I was successful with my work and how people would see me in my later years-and now I'm here and it's nice to know that I seem to be still important in the world and I can still do some things to try to help make life a little bit better, if I can," she said.

Although she wants to do more things, Parton clarified that she would not be able to do anything for a living other than being a country singer.
