Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan shared the dark side of the music industry despite being one of the most successful musicians.

Corgan has several titles under his belt - musician, singer, songwriter, and professional wrestling promoter. The 56-year-old recently shared a story about one of his jobs and revealed how being successful in the music industry did not exempt him from criticisms.

Billy Corgan Shares What It Feels Like To Be Criticized

Corgan recently dropped by "The Howard Stern Show" during which he spoke about different topics, including the criticisms he received as a musician.

While he reportedly faces condemnation outside the music industry, as well, Corgan noted that he mostly suffered from it as a musician even when he and Smashing Pumpkins are successful. Although he also receives praises, he revealed that he does not hear them as he has been having the mindset where he only hears nothing but criticisms.

"It's like if somebody talks to you for a minute and they say one small critical thing and that's all you remember about the conversation. So, that may have been my life. People may have told me how great I was every five seconds and I just didn't hear it," he went on.

Unfortunately, Corgan's tragic experience is rooted in his childhood.

The musician told Stern that he grew up as his parents continuously told him he was useless and called him names. While the host tried to praise him and Smashing Pumpkins after playing a clip of "Disarm," Corgan refused to do so by saying that the track is no "greater masterpiece."

Still, he connected it to the continuous criticisms he gets.

How "Disarm" Beauty and Power Are Connected to Negative Comments About Him

Corgan spoke about writing and arranging the song years after creating it when he was 25 years old. He acknowledged that the track was a hit song, but it reportedly never made someone tell him to release more of that.

Instead of the track, fans and the public asked for more songs like "Bullet With Butterfly Wings," instead.

Corgan remains a member of Smashing Pumpkins alongside James Iha, Jeff Schroeder, and Jimmy Chamberlin. In 2012, the band officially sold over 30 million albums worldwide since its debut.

So far, Smashing Pumpkins has already earned several awards from different ceremonies, including Best Hard Rock Performance from Grammy Awards and Best Alternative Artist from American Music Awards.
