The Grammy Awards just wrapped up almost two months ago and it seems like there are already contenders for next year's awards show under the Best Alternative Album category; who could possibly compete within the genre?

According to Gold Derby, there are a few musicians who released records over the past few months and other ones who wish to be nominated have until September 2023's eligibility deadline.

It appears that the category will see famous singers under the said genre go head-to-head with each other as their albums amassed massive success based on sales and chart placements.

Check out below who could possibly be nominated for the category.

Grammys Best Alternative Album Predictions

The first two are Lana Del Rey's "Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd" and Melanie Martinez's "Portals." The latter is bigger than the queen of alternative's record based on sales as it broke the record for best first-week sales out of any female solo musicians in 2023 so far.

However, there's still a bigger chance for the "The Grants" hitmaker to snag the title as "Portals" could possibly move from alternative to the pop category.

Del Rey shouldn't be comfortable as there is another contender that could beat her for the award, which is Caroline Polacheck's "Desire, I Want to Turn Into You."

The "Bunny Is a Rider" hitmaker has not been nominated for a Grammy Award in the past, but she has an impressive review from critics for her latest album.

Debuting at number four on the Billboard 200, the musician's album is said to have the biggest first-week sales compared to the two records mentioned above.

Grammys Extends Eligibility Date for the 2024 Ceremony

In early reports, The Recording Academy recently issued a statement, saying that they will extend the eligibility date to September 15, which is two weeks later than the initial deadline of August 31.

"After listening to concerns from some members of the music community, we have decided to amend the end date of the previously-announced eligibility period," Harvey Mason Jr., the Academy's CEO said. (via Variety)

Aside from the eligibility period (October 1, 2022, to September 15, 2023), there are also other important dates to remember for the 66th Grammy Awards.

Media registration will begin on July 10, 2023, until August 24, 2023, while the online entry process registration will be from July 17, 2023, to August 31, 2023.
