Demi Lovato was one of the Disney child stars who barely made it out alive and in one piece.

At an early age, she began her career under the spotlight and slipped and struggled along the way. However, these days, the singer is feeling much better and her mind is clearer than it has ever been.

"I feel like I am in control now, where my whole life I wasn't in control," Lovato shared at the inaugural Hollywood & Mind Summit.

According to reports, the 30-year-old shared her journey and struggles with her mental health, which began when she was just a child.

Bipolar Diagnosis

Lovato revealed that it was not until she was 18 that she revealed that she had actually been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but she already felt someone was wrong way before that.

She explained how she would begin to question her own feelings and emotions during random moments, like watching her fans cheer her on, but crying about it.

"I was so relieved that I had finally had a diagnosis," Lovato continued. "I had spent so many years struggling, and I didn't know why I was a certain way in dealing with depression at such extreme lows, when I seemingly had the world in front of me just ripe with opportunities."

Her deteriorating mental health led to other destructive behaviors like substance abuse.

Lovato was in and out of rehab for a number of years, in fact, as early as 2022, she completed another round of rehab.

"I no longer support my 'California sober' ways," the "Dancing with the Devil" singer announced on social media. "Sober sober is the only way to be."

Mental Health Journey

One of the reasons why the "Heart Attack" singer has decided to come forward and finally tell her story is simply because it can help other people find their way back as well.

"I knew that if I could help others with their journey, then that's exactly what I wanted to do," she said. "And so I decided to be open and honest about what I had finally learned about myself."

Lovato elaborated on how a diagnosis helped her get her life back on track: "Looking back, it makes sense. There were times when I was so manic, I was writing seven songs in one night and I'd be up until 5:30 in the morning."
