Steven Adler, former Guns N' Roses drummer, opened up about the bizarre incident that helped him get rid of his drug dependency all at once.

Adler detailed his struggles in his 2010 book, "My Appetite for Destruction: Sex and Drugs and Guns N' Roses," revealing that he had a tough time dealing with drugs during his time in and out of the band. It took him years before he got rid of his habit from his system, and his brother recently revealed what led him to kick drugs.

Steven Adler Kidnapped by His Own Brother

Adler's brother Jamie sat down for a three-part interview with Yahoo! Entertainment in which he explained that he often visited the musician in Los Angeles when they were still close. However, he reportedly witnessed how Adler's dependency worsened when they returned from a 1990 event.

According to Jamie, the former Guns N' Roses rocker brought a little sack, tinfoil, balloon, and lighter and started smoking heroin in front of him.

"I was 14, and he's f---ing smoking heroin right in front of me. I'm like, 'What the f--- are you doing, dude?'" he said. "He's like, 'You don't understand what it's like to be me. To be a celebrity. ... Man, it's just a lot of pressure.'"

Jamie suggested he smoke weed instead, but Adler reassured him he was not addicted to drugs and that it was not as bad as he thought it was. The musician also asked him not to tell their mother about it, leaving Jamie deeply hurt.

However, Adler's addiction worsened over time despite admitting him to Eric Clapton's Crossroads rehabilitation facility and undergoing an intervention assisted by his former bandmate, Slash.

The doctors advised the drummer to take a prescription drug for the next 30 days to clean his blood, but Jamie and the family believed Adler would not follow it.

As a result, he kidnapped his own brother to help him avoid his own demise. After confining him, the drummer returned to Las Vegas and got rid of drugs in his life.

How the Incident Broke Their Relationship

While the kidnapping incident helped Adler to stop his heroin abuse, it ultimately affected their relationship as siblings.

Jamie expressed his heartbreak, saying that they do not have a relationship for years since he kidnapped him.
