Bruce Springsteen's name remains missing from the Hollywood Walk of Fame decades after he did not show up for his own ceremony.

The historical landmark currently holds the stars of actors, musicians, music acts, and artists who have made notable contributions to different industries. Most musicians have already received the honor, but Springsteen's name is surprisingly missing in the famous street.

Why Bruce Springsteen Does Not Have a Star on the Walk of Fame

The Walk of Fame started in 1960 and has since given over 2,700 stars to celebrities over the past decades. Producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies, Ana Martinez, told Billboard that the accolade is the only award artists can share with fans.

In 1989, a fan nominated the 73-year-old "Streets of Philadelphia" singer and was approved by the board. However, he never showed up, and it led to the creation of the "Bruce Springsteen Policy."

In an interview with Today, Martinez said that the singer's no-show led to the enactment of the new policy within the organization.

"I call this my 'Bruce Springsteen policy'. Ever since then, we have celebrities sign off, or their management," she said. "[and they] and say they're OK with it, and they'll be participating in the event once it has been scheduled if they are selected."

After Springsteen opted not to attend his 1989 induction, he became one of the countless of singers and actors who refused a star from the Walk of Fame.

Other Actors, Musicians Rejected Honor, As Well

While they never shared the reason why they opted out of the induction, it has been known that the nominating party or nominated celebrity must pay $40,000 once the Chamber approves the application.

Aside from Springsteen, there are other celebrities who turned down the opportunity to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Among them are Madonna, Whitney Houston, Clint Eastwood, Julia Roberts, John Denver, Prince, Al Pacino, and even Muhammad Ali.

Meanwhile, the award-giving body will honor more celebrities and personalities this year who are able to join the class of 2023. In the recording category, Jonas Brothers, Irving Azoff, Marc Anthony, Charlie Wilson, Blake Shelton, Jenni Rivera, Lenny Kravitz, and Sheila E. will be inducted this year.

As for the live theatre/live performance, Lang Lang, Pentatonix, and Melba Moore will get their stars.
