New shocking details regarding the murder of The Beatles member John Lennon emerged decades after the killing.

The Dec. 8, 1980 assassination of Lennon stopped the world as fans were left shocked when The Beatles member was shot and fatally wounded outside his residence in New York City. His convicted shooter, Mark David Chapman, is still spending his jail time after being denied parole multiple times.

John Lennon's Jailed Shooter Was NOT the Killer?

As new evidence of Lennon's shooting incident emerged, one research that was previously conducted for a book threw doubt on the murder and suggested the existence of a second gunman.

British author David Whelan conducted a three-year investigation into Lennon's murder which suggested that detectives might have misunderstood how the shooting happened. The previous statement reemerged after he recently unveiled the official records regarding the two different types of bullets recovered from the musician's body.

In his research, Whelan obtained witness testimonies from the surgeon and two nurses who tried to revive the singer. Their statements reportedly do not correspond to the official narrative published following the initial investigation.

Per the author, Chapman might have been groomed for the assassination through hypnosis or manipulation of backers under the CIA, the US military, or Southern Christians.

Another Gunman Killed Lennon?

He cited in his report that the medical staff who saw Lennon all said that he was shot four times in his upper chest area from the front - three of which exited from his left back.

"Between the two of them, nurses Kammerer and Sato saw Lennon's wounds up close, three times. Twice when he was washed and shrouded," he said. "Nobody was better placed to say where and how John Lennon was shot."

The author added in the research that the bullets that came from Chapman's gun do not usually pass through the victim - instead, they are designed to spread out on impact to cause maximum damage to the body.

The previous research supported his recently-unveiled findings, suggesting that a second shooter could have been involved in the murder case. During the autopsy, two different types of bullets were recovered from John Lennon's body: 1 x 38 cal.SWC and 1 x 38cal lead bullet.

Whelan noted that it is possible to have different types of ammunition in a single revolver, but he cited Chapman's statement that he only used the hollow point wadcutter bullets.
