Selena Gomez was recently involved in an embarrassing Instagram incident after a post she shared courted unwanted controversy.

The former Disney star posted a picture with her friend on the platform, where she is the most followed American singer, along with the words "Ice cream chillin'."

Unfortunately for her, this didn't sit well with some of her followers, and it was only a short time before the post was removed from the platform.

Her snapshot, which appeared harmless at first glance, caused her 421 million followers to be enraged.

People had caught sight of her wearing a Balenciaga top in it and accused her of promoting "child exploitation" simply by donning an item from this fashion label. Taking to their comments, fans simply showed no mercy.

The backlash was swift, according to The UK Mirror.

"Do you really think it's okay to promote child exploitation by wearing your Balenciaga sweatshirt?" one user wrote.

To this, another responded: "This just seems like Kim K all over again and I'm disappointed; I thought you'd be different."

Angrily, the third person typed: "It is inexcusable for someone such as yourself, who was an influential UNICEF ambassador and has been a voice for children, to support BALENCIAGA."

Meanwhile, a fourth added: "I believed in your cause; however, I now understand that endorsing this brand means condoning pedophilia. It's heartbreaking to see what lies beneath your words."

In response to the controversy sparked by Selena Gomez's post, some chose to stand up in support of the singer.

Those individuals argued that the photos were not current but instead taken earlier and that wearing a brand does not necessarily equate to approval of its policies.

Subsequently, it appears that the singer removed the post from her Instagram page following criticism from many on the internet.

Balenciaga Scandal

The recent ad campaign from Balenciaga featuring children standing alongside teddy bears wearing bondage gear has caused outrage amongst celebrities and those in the fashion world.

In light of two photoshoots that have stirred controversy, Balenciaga has issued an apology. Not only this, but many of their frequent collaborators, like Kim Kardashian, have announced they are re-evaluating their involvement with them in the future.

In an issued statement last year, they said, "We sincerely apologize for any offense our holiday campaign may have caused."

"Our plush bear bags should not have been featured with children in this campaign. We have immediately removed the campaign from all platforms."

In response to a separate campaign featuring "unsettling documents," this company expressed its remorse. It announced it would be taking legal action against those responsible for its inclusion in its Spring '23 photoshoot. They firmly stated: "We take this matter very seriously..."
