Barry Alan Pincus (known professionally as Barry Manilow) was born on June 17, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York. Manilow has been widely known for specialized orchestrated romantic ballads, which he has utilized in his journey to fame in the music business at the height of his career in the industry during the 1970's.
Barry was born into a lower class family. in Brooklyn. As per Britannica, Barry's father left the family when the then future singer was only two years old. After several years have passed, Barry has taken over his mother's maiden name for his last name. While he was young, Barry took a keen interest in playing the accordion and the piano. Through the influence of his stepfather, Manilow took an interest in jazz and Broadway music and songs. Manilow has taken classes in New York College of Music (now part of New York University). Later on, Manilow also took classes at the Juilliard School of Music.

Working for another legendary celeb, Bette Midler, as her music director and co-producer of her albums, paved the way for Manilow to start working on his own self-titled debut album (which in the future was renamed as Barry Manilow I) in 1973.

Barry's sophomore album, "Barry Manilow II," released in 1974, was a greater hit than his previous one. The success of this album mainly depended upon the hit single, "Mandy". "Mandy" reached the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Other singles from Barry that was number one in Billboard Hot 100 were "I Write the Songs" and "Looks Like We Made It," as per Billboard.
Barry's career dipped low during the 1980's and 1990's. However, it resurged during the onset of the 21st century. Manilow's 2006 album release, "The Greatest Songs of the Fifties" was the singer's first number one album in almost 30 years. To date, Manilow has a total of 15 Grammy nominations and one Grammy win under his belt.
