Brian May spoke up about his wish to see a "Bohemian Rhapsody" sequel after the biopic's widespread success.

Queen and Freddie Mercury's story was highlighted in the award-winning biopic, "Bohemian Rhapsody," premiered in 2018. The Bryan Singer and Dexter Fletcher-directed movie saw Rami Malek portraying the late singer.

Nearly five years after the movie was shown, May suggested the idea of having a sequel soon.

Brian May Wants a "Bohemian Rhapsody" Sequel

During the June 27 episode of SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk," May talked about opening the door to the possibility of having a "Bohemian Rhapsody" sequel years after the biopic premiered. The movie currently holds the title of the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time.

It ended by showing Queen's final concert with Mercury before the lead singer's death, attracting viewers who wanted to know about the band's backstory and raise awareness regarding HIV/AIDS.

According to May, they would love to see a sequel though it is finding the right script that stops them from doing it right now.

"It actually took us 12 years to find the right script for the first one, so I guess it's no surprise that it's not easy," he said. "There is a story there - an awful lot happened after the end of the 'Bohemian Rhapsody' movie script, if you like, story - but whether it would make a film, I don't know."

May then clarified that, while they would love to have a sequel, they have not found a way to start doing it yet.

His comment resonated with what he told Daily Star in May, saying that the actors who played their roles in the biopic were "phenomenal" and that they want to do a sequel just to work with them again.

Gwilym Lee played May's role in the biopic, while Ben Hardy and Joe Mazzello scored Roger Taylor and John Deacon's characters, respectively.

Although May is positive they will soon find a way to make the sequel work, Taylor previously said in July 2020 that a "Bohemian Rhapsody" sequel was unlikely due to a lack of a genius plan.

He also expressed his fears about how dangerous it could be to have a sequel since there have been follow-ups that failed to match the original film. Still, he revealed that he felt surprised by the success of the biopic.
