Mo Foster, a famed bassist who previously worked with several musicians, including Phil Collins and Jeff Beck, has died at the age of 78, multiple news outlets confirmed.

Foster's close friend, Ray Russell, was one of the first people who addressed his passing in a statement regarding his passing. The longtime collaborator, per Guitar World, shared the confirmation in a social media post in which he also paid tribute to the bassist after working with him for decades.

Bassist Mo Foster Dead at 78

While Russell's initial statement did not disclose Mo Foster's cause of death and other details about his demise, Bass Magazine published a report saying that the bassist died Monday in the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead.

Foster reportedly stayed in the medical for three weeks after getting diagnosed with liver and bile duct cancer in May, when he also marked his final gig with Russell and "Mo Foster & Friends" at the Pizza Express Soho in Dean Street.

It remains unknown whether he suffered from any other health issues or complications prior to his death. On the other hand, National Cancer Institute explains that there is a form of cancer that forms inside the liver and a type that attacks the bile ducts that connects the liver and gallbladder to the small intestine.

It also shares that stage IV of bile duct cancer means the dreaded cells have already spread to other parts of the body, which, for Foster's part, affected his liver.

Foster's family has not released a statement regarding his death, but Bass Magazine revealed that he wished to be cremated and had opted not to have a funeral service. The magazine also shared that there would be a memorial gig and celebration of life events in London, though the dates are yet to be announced.

Following his death, his former collaborators, musicians, and fans look back at his fruitful career as a music icon.
