Queen welcomed several singers to sing Freddie Mercury's parts in their hit songs, but Adam Lambert knew no one could ever replace him.

Over the years, Queen has been collaborating with several singers - Lambert and Paul Rodgers - whom they tapped to become the vocalist but never as Mercury's replacement. But instead of performing under the same banner, they opt to include the singer's name instead by adding a + sign.

Though people have been wondering for decades whether the band would soon replace the late singer, Lambert recently opened up about why the idea is impossible to do.

Freddie Mercury Will Never Be Replaced by Queen, Says Adam Lambert

On Friday, Lambert received the International Award at O2 Silver Clef Awards held at JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel, London. During his interview with Music News editor Marco Gandolfi, he spoke about working with the Queen's surviving member and how he could never replace Mercury and his legacy.

Calling the late "Bohemian Rhapsody" hitmaker a "mythic rock god," the Queen + Adam Lambert frontman applauded Mercury's ability to write countless of songs and perform them in the ways no one could ever follow.

According to Lambert, Mercury made his songs unique by putting his life story into them.

"[And] I didn't have the recordings of Freddie Mercury, I wouldn't be anywhere near where I am with this music," the singer said. "So he's incredibly inspiring and he definitely gave me all of the ingredients that I needed to even pull it off on stage. So I look at it always as a celebration and a tribute to him."

Aside from Mercury's singing, Lambert also praised the late frontman's songwriting as he connected himself with people through the songs he created before his death.
