Michael Bolton has kept to himself for a little over a decade, without having the need to release any new material-but being cooped up in your own home for months on end can do some things to people.

For the "Go the Distance" singer, it inspired him to make a brand new album again!

"I felt a responsibility to help people feel a spark in their lives. Music is very powerful that way," Bolton said in an interview about his upcoming album "Spark of Light."

"We're all so humanly connected; we're so in need of some light. That became the working theme every day: 'How do we make [the music] make other people feel better?'"

This new album will not only have brand new original songs from the singer, but a number of talented artists will also be featured in its tracklist, including Nicholas Pettrica of Walk the Moon, Justin Jesso, Jochem Van Der Saag, and more.

Michael Bolton's 'Spark of Light'

In an interview with Consequence of Sound, Bolton reflected on the time people's lights dimmed due to the dire and depressing circumstances brought by the pandemic.

"[It's] about being open to that joy that you can find in everyday life. Sometimes you have to be willing to see it, to be touched by it," he shared.

"It can sneak up on you and if you embrace it, that joy can really turn your world around. Then you start to see life through a different lens, a more positive outlook. And when you bring that joyful attitude to the world, it smiles right back at you."

Michael Bolton Celebrates 50 Years of Making Music

The singer has come full circle with the new album, as he will be celebrating the 50th year of him making music.

He has not released any new material since "One World One Love," which was dropped in 2009.

Apparently, the whole project came to life amid the pandemic, and most of its writing sessions were conducted over Zoom. When the world began to open back up, Bolton was able to meet his collaborators face-to-face for the recording sessions.

"Christina would come to me and say, 'I have four or five people you could have sessions with next week. This one writes this kind of music, he's a great musician, this one's a great singer,'" Bolton explained the music-making process, referring to his manager Christina Kline. "And it became an exciting way to pollinate this talented group of people."
