Tupac Shakur's murder case investigation finally saw progress nearly 27 years after the tragic killing happened.

The long-dormant Tupac Shakur's case has not identified the suspect who shot the rapper in 1996 during a drive-by shooting after he and his entourage had a violent fight with a man identified as a member of the Las Vegas-based Crips street gang.

Tupac Shakur's Murder Case Takes Another Step

Nearly 27 years after Tupac Shakur died, the Las Vegas Metro Police Department detectives visited the rapper's Henderson home as they aim to finally reach the end of the probe.

Multiple news outlets, including The Guardian, cited Nevada authorities' confirmation on Tuesday regarding the search warrant they served related to the long-unsolved killing of the rapper. The police department's search warrant was executed on Monday, but it did not detail what or who they were looking for.

"LVMPD can confirm a search warrant was served in Henderson, Nevada on July 17, 2023, as part of the ongoing Tupac Shakur homicide investigation," the authorities said. "We will have no further comment at this time."

Department spokesperson Aden OcampoGomez held a brief phone call interview in which he revealed it was an open investigation and that he could not provide further details, The Guardian reported.

Las Vegas police previously said that the investigation could not reach closure and remained stalled for years due to witnesses' refusal to share their statements and cooperate in the probe. Although Tupac Shakur's killing happened decades ago, the case remains open as Nevada does not have a statute of limitations in homicide cases.

Tupac Shakur Dead Days After the Shooting

Tupac Shakur and some of his entourage had a violent fight with a Crips gang member days before the rapper's death. Hours after the brawl, the "All Eyez on Me" lyricist left the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in a BMW that was being driven by Death Row Records' boss, Suge Knight.

The drive-by shooting soon started at a red light on Flamingo Road and Koval Lane when a white, four-door Cadillac pulled up and opened fire. Police revealed that at least 12 shots were fired during the incident, four of which hit Tupac Shakur and one grazed Suga Knight's head.

Days after suffering multiple gunshot wounds at that time, Tupac Shakur died at the University Medical Center though his doctors said his condition was improving after he underwent emergency surgery.
