Shakira is under investigation once again for tax fraud in Spain, but it seems like she is confident that she will past this and clear her name once and for all.

According to reports, the "Hips Don't Lie" singer is being investigated for alleged fraud and tax evasion in regard to her income and wealth back in 2018.

She is also expected to stand trial later this year for another related case connected to her taxes between 2012 and 2014, which allegedly amounts to over $14.31 million, or 14.5 million euros.

If she loses, Shakira could very well go to jail. As per reports, she is facing up to eight years in prison if she is found guilty of tax fraud.

However, it seems like Shakira and her legal team are optimistic and confident that the "She Wolf" singer will not be facing any jail time.

'Shakira is Innocent'

Shakira's team issued a statement shortly after the news of the singer's second tax fraud case was brought to public attention.

"As has been stated on numerous occasions, Shakira defends having always acted in compliance with the law and under the guidance of the best tax experts," a statement read.

"The singer's legal team will not make any comments until the notification reaches them through the official and legally established channels."

The statement also noted that the singer was notified about the developments in the case personally at her new home in Miami-where she moved after her split from soccer player Gerard Pique.

Shakira's public relations team also shared that despite all the troublesome headlines and news about the singer, she is doing well, and in fact, not worried at all.

"Now she is focused on her artistic life in Miami and is calm and confident in a favorable resolution to her tax affairs."

Shakira Rejects Settlement

According to reports, the reason why Shakira is going through these trials and new investigations is because she rejected the settlement offer in the case.

Had she accepted it, she would have settled it out of court, and paid a handsome sum. However, she refuses because she insists on her innocence, noting that the $3 million plus interest that she initially owed has been paid.

As of this writing, Shakira is in a waiting game, but that does not mean she is anxious-she is not. She has been on several dates and people have seen her enjoying F1 races in recent weeks.
