Jason Aldean's "Try That In A Small Town" reached the top of the genre-blending Hot 100 singles chart last week. Now, it plummeted 20 spots, making it one of the biggest freefall for a No. 1 song in the chart's history.

Notably, Jason Aldean's highly-controversial single was powered to the top by the conservative group dismissing the conversation and criticism that it promotes white nationalism as it was racially charged.

Unbeknownst to many, "Try That In A Small Town" was released in April 2023. However, it didn't land in the charts until the controversial music video was released earlier in June 2023.

Since then, conservatives have driven the song to the top of the charts. Despite the mountain of backlash that the song and its music video have received from people on social media and the academe, it still persisted and even debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, falling behind Jungkook and Latto's "Seven."

With the effort not enough for its first week to top the charts, streaming and sales surged, as the effort to drive it all the way to the top successfully happened.

Last week, it went to No. 1 on the charts. However, after its peak at the top, Rolling Stone noted that the hype behind the song died down as it experienced one of the biggest free falls in Hot 100 history.

According to Luminate, "Try That In A Small Town" only raked in 16.5 million streams, which was a 53% drop from the week before. Sales also suffered with an 85% drop. However, the publication noted that the effort is still enough to top the Digital Songs Sales Chart for the third week.

On the Top Country Songs Chart, the song fell down to No. 3 behind Morgan Wallen's "Last Night" and Luke Combs' "Fast Car."
