Priscilla Presley's film will not include any of Elvis Presley's songs.

Sofia Coppola has written and directed the upcoming movie, "Priscilla," for A24. Details about the flick remain unknown, but the filmmaker confirmed that it would not include a selection of Elvis' songs after the late King of Rock and Roll's estate declined the request.

Why Elvis Presley's Estate Does Not Want His Music To Be Included in "Priscilla"

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Coppola said that she contacted Elvis' estate for the project as she wanted to use some of the King's songs in the film. However, the estate reportedly rejected her request.

"They don't like projects that they haven't originated, and they're protective of their brand," she explained.

Elvis Presley's Enterprises' 85 percent is owned by management company, Authentic Brands Group, while the remaining 15 percent belongs to his surviving family members.

Rather than feeling down because of the rejection, the director said those working on Priscilla's film became more creative after their request was denied.

Instead of Elvis' songs, "Priscilla" will reportedly include classic songs performed by Coppola's husband and Phoenix frontman, Thomas Mars.

Priscilla Presley's "Priscilla" Details

The upcoming film will debut at the Venice Film Festival and serve as an adaptation of Priscilla's memoir, "Elvis and Me."

The film will feature "Bad Times at the El Royale" actor Cailee Spaeny, who will portray Priscilla, and "Euphoria" and "The Kissing Booth" star Jacob Elordi as Elvis.

The King's estate revealed in June after the release of the trailer that it was unaware that a film was being made. It also slammed the film for looking like "a college movie" with "horrific set designs." It also called out the writing and directing of the film as "horrible."

On the other hand, Priscilla shared her excitement to show support for Coppola and the film.

"I am excited about the interpretation of my book by the masterful Sofia Coppola, she wrote. "She has such an extraordinary perspective and I have always been such an admirer of her work. I'm certain this movie will take everyone on an emotional journey."

"Priscilla" follows the release of Baz Luhrmann's award-winning film, "Elvis," which helped Austin Butler score the Best Actor Award at the 2023 Golden Globes.
