Selena Gomez had fans in awe for her fabulous outfit and gorgeous look at the MTV Video Music Awards this year, but her followers were later confused about something that she posted online.

The singer, who recently dropped her new song "Single Soon," took to her official Instagram stories to share several photos of herself at the awards show.

However, towards the end, she shared a mysterious message, writing, "I will never be a meme again. I'd rather sit still than be dragged for being myself. Much love."

As of this writing, the musician did not give more context to her post, leaving fans curious.

However, Glamour Magazine suggested that it might be connected to her reaction when Chris Brown was called as one of the nominees for a certain award.

In a video circulating online, Gomez could be seen sitting down in the audience area and when the R&B star's name was called, the singer seemingly made a quirky face.

The outlet also pointed out that it might be the songstress' photo that became a meme in which she was photographed sitting down while covered with a blanket.

Selena Gomez Speaks Out About Olivia Rodrigo Controversy

Among the performers for the evening was Olivia Rodrigo, who delivered a shocking live rendition of her new songs "get him back!" and "vampire."

During her set, the musician's stage appeared to be malfunctioning, which was intentional, as pyrotechnics continue to fire everywhere and the metal block above her almost fell.

Aside from her performance, another thing that stood out was Selena Gomez's reaction as she appeared to be covering her ear, which led online users to speculate that she doesn't like the young singer.

Selena Gomez VMAs

According to Vogue, Gomez, who was among the most-nominated stars of the evening, wore a romantic outfit at the event.

The musician sported a gown by Oscar de la Renta which featured a cut-out that revealed some of her skin. The gown was detailed with what appeared to be prints of flowers and leaves that covered her entire body as a fringe hangs down from her skirt down.

She finished her look with minimal accessories and a pair of red heels.

In other updates, she also won the best Afrobeats award with Rema for their collaborative track "Calm Down." (via CNN)
