Victoria Monet was not among the performers at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), which caused some fans to raise their eyebrows and question the music award show's decision to exclude the singer.

Monet took to social media to directly address the fans' concerns, once and for all: "I see your advocation for me to have performed tonight and I'm so grateful to you! Sincerely!"

"My team was told it is 'too early in my story' for that opportunity so we will keep working," the singer continued.

Monet began her music career as a songwriter before eventually being signed to Atlantic Records. She released her debut EP, "Nightmares & Lullabies: Act 1" in October 2014 and the follow-up, "Nightmares & Lullabies: Act 2" in June 2015.

Victoria Monet Picks Up Music Career with 'Jaguar'

It was not until she released her EP "Jaguar" that Monet began to establish herself as a mainstay in the music industry, and her collaborative song with Ariana Grande, "Monopoly," released in 2019, also helped.

"Jaguar" received widespread acclaim, and even landed in several year-end lists by numerous publications.

However, it is her debut album, "Jaguar II" that definitely made people pay attention.

The album produced three singles, "Smoke," "Party Girls," and "On My Mama."

Monet is also on her way to embark on "The Jaguar" tour in support of the album, which is why fans were wondering why the VMAs did not invite a rising artist to perform at the music awards show.

"I'm grateful for YOU, for my tour starting this Friday and for the ability to see some of my favorite people perform tonight and receive the love they so deserve," Monet continued in her post.

"For me, it's part of the story... and in God's time."

Netizens Poke Fun at Victoria Monet

Following the singer's post on X, formerly known as Twitter, netizens raised an eyebrow and scoffed at her.

"That's very funny, but let's leave it at that," one wrote.

"She's humble to have come out this way," another wrote.

But there were others who defended the singer, noting that Monet is not a newcomer and has earned the right to perform at one of the most coveted music award shows of the year.

"Why can't Victoria perform on the same stage as these people? Is the stage only reserved for them?"

"You got plenty of time queen."

"She's a good singer & performer who deserves the stage to show her talent!"
