The relationship between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce appears to be the talk of the town.
However, reports have surfaced that this could distract from Taylor's previous romantic entanglement with British rock star Matty Healy, labeled "problematic."
In the spring of this year, news of Taylor and Joe Alwyn's breakup shocked many. After a six-year relationship that began in late 2016, the Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter was spotted with The 1975 front man, shortly after their split.
The news of the alleged relationship between Taylor and Matty shocked everyone, causing his behavior to be harshly scrutinized.
This was particularly noticeable following a particular incident on a podcast where he laughed when the host made fun of Chinese accents and labeled Ice Spice an "Inuit Spice Girl" and a "chubby Chinese lady".
At a recent live show, Matty made a public apology to Ice Spice, whom Taylor also collaborated with for her song "Karma," from her 2022 album, "Midnights."
When speaking with Variety, Ice Spice said she was "so confused" about what had happened with Matty but added that he had apologized "a bunch of times."
Meanwhile, Kamie Crawford - the host of the "Catfish" podcast - shared her opinion that the "Cruel Summer" singer's relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis is meant to divert attention away from her brief affair with Matty in early 2023.
The fact that this romance was made public has led Kamie to believe it was strategic on her part.
Kamie expressed that the Public Relations aspect [of the situation] went wrong, but this time it's doing so much better.
Kamie added, "I used to love The 1975 and some of the songs. But he's made some very problematic comments."
She emphasized how Taylor had broken up with her long-time partner, Joe Alwyn, shortly before the world learned about her "relationship" with Matty Healy.
She said: "She came out of a serious relationship, and then she was in one which wasn't healthy. People disregard that fact and think Matty Healy is just the rebound guy."
Travis Kelce may have been under fire from his ex-girlfriend Maya Benberry and has a penchant for smoking weed, but compared to Matty, the athlete maintains an overall clean image.
When Nev Schulman, co-host of "Catfish," joined in on the "Virtual Reali-Tea" chat, he questioned whether Taylor Swift's rumored romance with Travis was meant as more than just a distraction from her relationship with Healy; could it also be used to boost both the NFL player's profile and reputation?
"I don't know what is happening there or if anything's happening. My wife [Laura Perlongo] and I have already speculated, 'Is it just a publicity stunt for the NFL?'" Nev questions.
He went on to add, "I had never heard of that guy, although I know he's an accomplished football player. So, it's great for him."
