Broadway's corniest musical is making its way to other parts of the country as "Shucked" announced that they would be embarking on a national tour.

The musical earned nine nominations at the 2023 Tony Awards including Best New Musical. However, only Alex Newell brought home a Tony Award.

'Shucked' Reviews

Since it opened for previews in April 2023, "Shucked" has received rave reviews from critics.

"Shucked" is not the only new show on Broadway with laughs, but it is the only unapologetic comedy in the field. There are no "but"s here. "Such-and-such musical is hilarious, but preachy." Or "Whatsitcalled is funny, but makes you think about your own mortality. All you think about at "Shucked" is what a terrific time you're having. Nothing corny about that," The New York Post said in a rave review of the show.

Deadline largely praised the stand-out actor, Alex Newell, because of how she stole and stopped the show with her performance of "Independently Owned."

"Perhaps that's one of the reasons - but only one - that Newell all but steals Shucked with the showstopping star turn on the finger-snapping, fill-the-rafters "Independently Owned." At the reviewed performance, Newell was easily the Act 1 audience favorite - standing ovations mid-song - even as the more cohesive second act delivered a steadier line-up of applause-getters," the review said.

Notably, the show was nominated nine times, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Direction, Best Orchestrations, Best Sound Design of a Musical, Best Scenic Design of a Musical, and Best Performance By An Actor in A Supporting Role for Newell.

Only Newell was able to win for the company, making her the first Non-Binary actor to win in the category.
