"The Woman In Me," Britney Spears' eagerly anticipated memoir, is due for release at the beginning of next week.

But a new extract has divulged why she tied the knot with her friend Jason Alexander in an intoxicated state.

The much-anticipated memoir of the 41-year-old pop superstar will be released next week, with readers eagerly awaiting to delve into the details of her tumultuous life.

One particularly significant event that will be explored within the book's pages is her wedding day back in 2004 to childhood friend Jason.

Britney described herself as being "sh**tfaced" and wrote in her book, "I don't even remember that night at all, but from what I pieced together, he and I lounged around the hotel room and stayed up late watching movies - Mona Lisa Smile and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - then had the brilliant idea of going to A Little White Chapel at three thirty in the morning."

Britney Spears also reportedly discussed her relationship with him via Time Magazine in the newly released excerpts.

The pop icon said: "People have inquired whether I had any love for him, and the answer is no. It's simply that I was too intoxicated - and generally very listless - during that period."

Britney reflected on her parents' reaction to her impromptu Las Vegas wedding, remembering Lynne and Jamie's response as "making way too big a deal out of innocent fun."

This caused Britney to shed tears for most of her stay in Sin City.

At the age of 22, Britney and Jason decided to throw caution to the wind and get hitched at A Little White Wedding Chapel in Vegas on January 3, 2004.

Although the two had exchanged vows, it seemed their love story was never meant to last; 55 hours later, their union was annulled.

In 2008, just four years after her short-lived marriage to a friend from childhood, Britney Spears was put under a conservatorship.

After an extensive #FreeBritney movement, a judge granted the star's request to end the conservatorship in 2021.

In anticipation of the upcoming publication of Britney Spears's tell-all memoir, many secrets have been revealed from within its pages.

Of particular note was her battle against body shaming by her father and a heartbreaking story showing how an unplanned pregnancy with Justin Timberlake ended in abortion.
