Jojo Siwa came out as queer when she was 17 years old, and had to grapple with the downsides of it, however, for the most part, she regrets nothing and is proud of what she has done.

"I came out when I was 17 but I didn't understand at the time what a big deal that was. I didn't understand why that was scary," the "Dance Moms" star explained during her "Jojo Siwa Now" podcast.

Apparently, coming out as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community felt very natural to Siwa, who revealed that she just decided to come out while speaking to her girlfriend on the phone.

"I didn't think twice about it," she added.

Netizens React to Jojo Siwa Coming Out

When Siwa came out, it was met with mixed reactions from her fans as well as netizens, and while she notes that many people supported her coming out, there were also several negative reactions.

"There was also a lot of negativity, and I did lose a lot," the dancer slash singer added, but also reflected on how she felt about it.

"I didn't care, and I still don't care about the things I lost and the people that I lost and if I lost a chunk of fans, because it's who I am."

The "Boomerang" singer addressed her "fake fans": "If you didn't like me because [one day] I was straight, and [the next day] I was gay, then you're not meant to like me anyways."

Just like her 2016 song, "Boomerang," Siwa expressed how she did not lose sleep over losing fans, and just carried on.

The song's lyrics go: "I don't really care about what they say/ I'm a come back like a boomerang/ Won't let the haters get their way/

"I'm a come back back back like/ Try try to throw us off track/ We know how to come back."

Examining Jojo Siwa's Career

Siwa began her career in the entertainment industry when she was just a child, as she was cast in the television series "Dance Moms" alongside her mother.

She eventually launched her music career in 2016, and released several songs; aside from music though, Siwa established her brand, coming out with a clothing line, a collection of bows, and many more.

"I created my career off of being genuine and if you didn't like me because on January whatever I was straight and January the next day I was gay, then you're not meant to like me anyways. I just try to really, really be genuine, really be who I am."
