Olivia Rodrigo New Song 'Hunger Games' Prequel

In a new trailer released by the "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" on it's social media platforms, it features the new Olivia Rodrigo song, "Can't Catch Me Now."

Rodrigo's voice fits the brief perfectly - her eerie youthful vocals matched the setting of the film - which was set decades before the events of the first movie took place, in a younger and less mature version of Panem.

Director Francis Lawrence raved about Rodrigo in a statement, highlighting how lucky they were in working with the music artists in the past movies up until now. (via Entertainment Weekly)

"From the very beginning of this franchise, we have been fortunate to attract some of the world's most talented recording artists whose music has accentuated and complemented the drama of the films while underscoring the emotional weight carried by the characters," he said. "With her highly charged lyrics and urgent voice, Olivia Rodrigo taps into all of that as much as any artist today. She's an absolute thrill to work with and we couldn't be more excited that her music is a part of the movie."

Rodrigo expressed her excitement and delight in an Instagram post.

"soooo beyond excited that I got the opportunity to write a song for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. my song "Can't Catch Me Now" comes out November 3rd!!!!" she wrote in the caption.

'Hunger Games' Prequel Promotion Greenlit By SAG-AFTRA

Earlier this week, Variety reported that the film has struck an interim agreement with the SAG-AFTRA for promotion. Notably, while still in Actors Strike, actors involved in a project are prohibited to do promotion for it - but with an interim agreement actors like Viola Davis, Tom Blythe, Rachel Zegler, and Hunter Schafer, and more can take part in promotional work.

Promotion for "Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" is quite crucial because it was the first "Hunger Games" project in the film franchise in eight years, and the first one without Jennifer Lawrence.

The "Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" comes out in theatres on Nov. 17, 2023.
