The new movie "Priscilla" is making all the buzz around social media as fans continue to praise Jacob Elordi for his portrayal of Elvis Presley and Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla Presley, but did you know that Lana Del Rey was almost involved in the movie? What happened?

According to Entertainment Weekly, director Sofia Coppola's production team reached out to the alternative singer to record an original song for the movie as part of the official soundtrack.

In an interview with E! News, the filmmaker was asked if Del Rey ever auditioned for the role of Priscilla as many fans have been comparing their looks for a long time now.

"I'm learning that people really connect Lana Del Rey with Priscilla and I didn't realize that," she said.

Lana Del Rey Almost Wrote a Song for 'Priscilla'

However, to everyone's surprise, she revealed that the singer almost got involved in the movie.

She further noted that she got a lot of requests and began to question how she's going to be a part of the film.

Coppola added that the production hoped Del Rey would write a song for the movie, but things didn't work out possibly because of scheduling conflict.

"We were hoping she could do a song for it, but it didn't work out with the timing," she added.

Not only that, the director told the outlet that Del Rey was invited to the movie premiere of "Priscilla" but she never made it to the event. Regardless, Coppola said she's excited for the singer to watch the film.

Sophia Coppola's 'Priscilla'

After the success of Baz Luhrmann's "Elvis," fans were surprised to see Sophie Coppola's "Priscilla" as many people didn't expect its story line which was based on the 1985 memoir titled "Elvis and Me."

According to Variety, the movie revolves around Priscilla Presley, the ex-wife of the legendary rock and roll singer.

Online users have been criticizing the relationship between the two as many deem it inappropriate. The reason why is that the pair's courtship reportedly began in 1959, at the time, Priscilla was only 14 years old while Elvis is 10 years older than her.

The movie was released by A24 in limited theaters across the United States on October 27, 2023. It expanded worldwide in November 3.
