Nicki Minaj might be one of the most successful artists in the music industry today after she had countless hits that the public loved and adored through the years, but there is something that her fans didn't know about in her past.

The musician, who is set to release her new album "Pink Friday 2" next month, recently appeared in the cover of Vogue Magazine for the month of December.

In her cover stroy, she got candid with her personal life and revealed that there was a point where she experienced addiction.

According to People Magazine, the Queen of Rap was previously prescribed a drug called Percocet that is commonly used to treat painful menstrual cramps.

However, no one advised her that the medication she was taking at the time could be addictive.

"No one told me that this was a narcotic and this was addictive," she said.

Nicki Minaj Gets Candid About Addiction

The musician said she started taking the opiod even though she didn't feel any pain, but fortunately, she was able to get out of that situation.

"Luckily I was able to ground myself. But - once an addict, always an addict," she explained.

She further noted that if someone experienced addiction to any type of substance, they will always have to think twice or thrice about the personal decisions and choices they make.

Nicki Minaj Says Some of the Biggest Artists Also Struggled With Addiction

Later on, the rapper gave an example, saying some of the biggest artists in the music industry like Michael Jackson, Prince, and Whitney Houston all suffered from addiction.

Unfortunately, amid their silent battles, the public would often laugh and make fun of them to the point that they didn't want to leave the house anymore.

"One day they decided, 'You know what? I'd rather self-medicate and be in my own world,'" she added.

She also noted that her father, Robert Maraj, suffered from crack cocain addiction during her early days and it had an impact on her and would consider herself just like her father.

Looking back, Minaj said she wished she understood her father as people with addiction didn't do drugs to hurt their families, but rather addiction took over them and they were was also victims.
