Larry Collins, popularly known for being a talented country singer-songwriter and a guitarist under the genre of rockabilly, has passed away at the age of 79.

According to a report published by Taste of Country, the musician's death was confirmed by his daughter, Larissa. However, as of this writing, the cause of his passing has yet to be publicized.

Larry was popularly known in the country music genre as he was one of the writers behind the iconic track "Delta Dawn," which was considered to be Tanya Tucker's first-ever major hit back in 1972.

In addition, he also worked on the song "You're The Reason God Made Oklahoma" by Shelly West and David Frizzell as a part of the movie "Any Which Way You Can."

According to Music Row, Larry Collins, who was also 1/2 of the duo the Collins Kids, was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1944. By the age of nine, he and his family moved to Los Angeles, California.

The singer had been inclined with music ever since he was a kid as he and his sister named Lorrie later formed a musical duo.

Lorrie was the one in charge with the lead vocals while Larry would play the guitar and would serve as a backup singer.

Their careers became successful as they amassed many fans, especially after their appearance on the television program titled "Town Hall Party."

Later on, they became their collaborative project was called the Collins Kids, which stuck to them until the rest of their careers.

Larry Collins, Lorrie Collins Career as a Duo

In addition to country music, Larry Collins was also best known for being a rockabilly guitarist as he had some of the best tracks in the 50 like "Beetle Bug Bop," "Hop Skip and Jump," and more.

Unfortunately, he and his sister's career as a duo didn't last long after Lorrie decided to elope with Johnny Cash's manager Stu Carnell.

Regardless, they would still perform over the next few years, but Lorrie finally retired from the music industry after she gave birth to her first child in 1961.

The pair reunited a few times as they had reunion shows in the 90s, but Larry solely focused on his career as a solo artist.

Lorrie passed away in 2018.
