Is Cher mentally fit to be a conservator of her son, Elijah Allman?

Marieangela King, Elijah's wife, emphasizes that the Grammy award-winning singer should not have conservatorship granted for Elijah due to her reputation as someone who struggles with mental health.

The wife raises significant concerns about the potential negative consequences of Cher's involvement in Allman's financial decisions and his path to recovery from substance abuse.

In legal documents obtained by Page Six, Marieangela says, "Cher is not capable of managing her affairs - let alone those of Elijah."

"To my knowledge, the petitioner has never known the security code to her own home, does not drive, does not prepare her meals or dress, and has admitted to me that she is a 'manic depressive.'"

Cher's Sustainability Challenged

Marieangela further claims that Jennifer Ruiz, the personal assistant of the legendary singer, has assumed control over her private and public matters of that it would be the same for when Elijah becomes under Cher's wing.

In Marieangela's petition, she expresses her belief that her 47-year-old husband does not require a conservatorship. However, should the court appoint one, she strongly emphasizes that it should not be Cher.

Elijah also presents another objection, asserting his accomplishments in effectively handling his financial affairs, maintaining a shared residence with King, and sustaining his sobriety.

Additionally, he reveals his reliance on a financial advisor who facilitates essential disbursements from the trust bequeathed to him by his late father, Gregg Allman.

"I could have demanded that my mandatory distributions be made to me directly as required by the trust, but I did not do so," he said.

Legal Drama Unfolds

The past month, Elijah takes the initiative to undergo voluntary drug testing three times. To his relief, all three tests come back negative, proving his commitment to a substance-free lifestyle since October 10, 2023.

As the legal proceedings progress, another important hearing is scheduled for January 29.

Cher initiated the conservatorship proceedings in December 2023.

Shortly after, she made a distressing statement that her son, Elijah, was nowhere to be found.

However, during the hearing in early January, Elijah appeared before the judge, leading to a temporary rejection of Cher's petition.

In a detailed statement to Page Six, Marieangela expressed her belief that it is inappropriate for Cher to exert control over her son's choices, citing an incident where she had him placed in a confinement center in Mexico.

"I have always been a champion for the sober community and for Elijah's sobriety. ... What I am not ok with are establishments that exclude me (his wife) from being part of Elijah's treatment and hopeful recovery," she shared.

"I am not ok with pop-up, makeshift, unethical scam rehabs which take full advantage of families in desperate situations and seek to fraudulently exploit insurance companies for services not rendered."
