  • Armin van Buuren Partners With Thalmic Lab's New Myo Movement Detecting Armbands To Control Live Performances

Live performances are changing every day with the development of brand new technologies and Dutch DJ / producer Armin van Buuren is at the forefront of that. Van Buuren has partnered with Canadian technology company Thalmic Labs on their new gesture control armband, Myo. The technology, which has been customized to his own live set up by Haute Technologies, allows Armin van Buuren to control his own lighting and stage effects hands free.
  • Armin Van Buuren Returning To NYC On December 29 at Pier 94

Trance king and dance music heavyweight Armin van Buuren is coming back to New York City. This time for a one-night event, he will be headlining a pre-NYE show at Pier 94 on Dec. 29.
  • DJMag's Top 10 DJ's of The Past Five Years: Music Times Calculates for Dutch Domination (and Hardwell Doesn't Even Appear!)

Just to further up the controversy, Music Times asks not who was the best DJ in the last year, but who was was the best DJ of the last five years? Our formula wasn't too complicated...we just averaged the rankings of everyone featured on the DJMag Top 100 list in the last five years. That does cause some major issues for some contestants however. Hardwell has been no. 1 for the last two years but he didn't place during 2010, suggesting a rank of at leads 101, and thereby making his mean ranking skyrocket. The name of our game is consistency.
  • Spotify and Echo Nest Indicate Dutch Listeners Strongly Prefer EDM Music Versus Other Countries...Although Not Necessarily Its Own

It's a big week for electronic dance music news. For one, the highly hyped DJMag Top 100 DJs list just hit the web this weekend. More importantly, the Amsterdam Dance Event has occurred over the last five days in the titular city. Consider it something like a SWSW exclusively for electronic music performers, with more than 2,200 acts hitting the largest city in the Netherlands for a swinging five-say stretch. Spotify and its Insights blog took the event into consideration to see just what those wily Dutch were listening to in the lead-up to the event.
  • Hardwell Tops DJ Mag Top 100 DJs List Once Again...Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Armin van Buuren Chart High, Boy George Debuts?

If you read Music Times article on the leaked rendition of the DJMag Top 100 DJs list, you'll probably be disappointed to see the real thing: It's exactly the same (except this time nos. 71 through 100 are included as well).
  • Russian EDM Site Leaks DJ Mag Top 100 DJs List Early? Hardwell, Martin Garrix, Armin van Buuren Supposedly Place Big

DJMag.com's annual list of the Top 100 DJs in the electronic dance music scene might be the most controversial "best of" list in music but that doesn't mean we, as fans, don't read it as soon as it comes out. It's scheduled to be announced on October 19 but, if Russian music site EDM News is honest, it's acquired the Top 100 (or at least the Top 70) early and has leaked them online.
  • Hardwell, Van Buuren, Deadmau5 and More: Where Are Your Favorite DJ's Playing on Halloween Night?

Halloween decorations (and candy!) have been on sale in stores for a month now but it's officially October so Music Times feels comfortable discussing what you'll be doing Halloween night. Halloween is the second biggest holiday of the year for EDM (behind New Year's Eve) and you need to get on getting tickets fast if you want a spot at events helmed by the biggest DJ's in the world.
  • Electric Zoo Schedule Clashes: Music Times Weighs in On Van Buuren vs. Knife Party, Kaskade vs. Jack U and More

Music Times helps out with your Electric Zoo set conflicts. It's bad enough trying to choose sets at a regular music festival: choosing between acts you love, deciding how far you're willing to walk to catch the act on the other side of the festival ground, deciding when you're going to take a break and eat.
  • Veld, Boonstock Festival Casualties Add To EDM Festival Safety Concern

Two Canadian music festivals ended disastrously last weekend, with a total of almost 100 hospitalizations. This is the latest of the ever-growing list of overdose-related deaths and hospitalizations at festivals. The unfortunate events occurred this weekend at Boonstock Festival and Veld Music Festival.
  • Disney soundtracks go digital for EDM album 'DCONSTRUCTED,' featuring Avicii, Armin Van Buuren and more

Disney is the most recent company to buy into the burgeoning popularity and profitability of electronic dance music. The film company announced it would release the album DCONSTRUCTED, which will feature soundtrack songs from Disney films re-imagined and remixed by EDM musicians, on April 22.
  • Tomorrowland sells out within an hour despite legal challenges to second weekend

Even with the threat of Tomorrowland's second weekend being cancelled, the European EDM festival moved more than 360,000 tickets to both weekends, selling out in less than an hour. Granted, that's more than twice as long as it took to sell out last year's festival, but yeah. Less than an hour, 360,000 tickets.
  • Topple Track and JustGo challenges DJ Mag Top 100 with new Top 100 DJ's list

The DJ Magazine Top 100 DJ's list is a go-to reference point for us at Music Times, but we understand that many fans and performers in the EDM genre don't think that list is worth jack. The problem on our end is that there's no comparable list to resort to. Until now.
