  • DJMag's Top 10 DJ's of The Past Five Years: Music Times Calculates for Dutch Domination (and Hardwell Doesn't Even Appear!)

Just to further up the controversy, Music Times asks not who was the best DJ in the last year, but who was was the best DJ of the last five years? Our formula wasn't too complicated...we just averaged the rankings of everyone featured on the DJMag Top 100 list in the last five years. That does cause some major issues for some contestants however. Hardwell has been no. 1 for the last two years but he didn't place during 2010, suggesting a rank of at leads 101, and thereby making his mean ranking skyrocket. The name of our game is consistency.
  • Spotify and Echo Nest Indicate Dutch Listeners Strongly Prefer EDM Music Versus Other Countries...Although Not Necessarily Its Own

It's a big week for electronic dance music news. For one, the highly hyped DJMag Top 100 DJs list just hit the web this weekend. More importantly, the Amsterdam Dance Event has occurred over the last five days in the titular city. Consider it something like a SWSW exclusively for electronic music performers, with more than 2,200 acts hitting the largest city in the Netherlands for a swinging five-say stretch. Spotify and its Insights blog took the event into consideration to see just what those wily Dutch were listening to in the lead-up to the event.

  • Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Tiësto and Avicii Top Forbes Highest-Paid EDM Performers List

Music Times caught Calvin Harris at Lollapalooza during the first weekend of August and noted that it seemed the DJ had invested his earning from last year-$46 million-into his elaborate and bright stage set. If our hypothesis that the size of his set directly reflects his earnings, next year's concerts will be off the charts: Harris topped Forbes' list of the highest earning electronic musicians for the second straight year, bringing a whopping $66 million over the last 12 months.
  • Watch David Guetta At Tomorrowland Have Existential Crisis

At Belgium's Tomorrowland Festival this past weekend, French EDM superstar David Guetta took some time out of his set to confront the existential horror of mindlessly twisting knobs for thousands of people as countless atrocities are being committed against innocent civilians at the very same moment. Or, you know, maybe he just got really high before he went on stage. Either way, there's footage of Guetta looking pretty bummed out during his set, which isn't really something we've come to expect from anyone willfully attending an EDM festival, even the DJs.
  • Calvn Harris, Tiësto Highest Paid DJ's of 2013

Calvin Johnson topped the list for 2013, bringing in more than $46 million (a total that topped Jay Z's earnings for the year).
