  • ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic’s Emmy Parody Originally Included ‘True Detective’ & ‘Downton Abbey’

    No matter how much we all loved “Weird Al” Yankovic’s hilarious parody performance on last night’s Emmy Awards, in which the famed comedy-musician sang a number of main theme title songs from some of our favorite television shows, Vulture reports that it was supposed to be much longer … and include HBO’s True Detective.

    Fresh off the success of his newest album Mandatory Fun, Weird Al Yankovic took some time to stop by the 2014 Emmy Awards earlier this evening to parody some of our favorite television shows of today.

Actor Kristian "Hodor" Nairn, who plays the friendly giant on the HBO series, has adapted his most famous role into an EDM show titled "Rave of Thrones," which he'll be bringing from Australia—where he played a series of club shows—to the United States for the first time on October 10.

    HBO has an interesting marketing strategy to increase the viewer reach of Game of Thrones. According to The Wall Street Journal, they've hired 10 hip-hop and Latin-music artists to rap about the series on a 10-song mixtape dubbed Catch The Throne. Among those they've enlisted are Wale, Big Boi, Daddy Yankee, Common and Bodega Bamz. The project will feature the artists rapping and singing about sword fights, fire-breathing dragons and more over beats made from samples from the show. It will be released for free online March 7.
