Lady Gaga has shared a stunning new poster for the upcoming Joker sequel, giving further insight to the musical aspect for the highly-anticipated film.
"The world is a stage," the GRAMMY-winner captioned her new Instagram post, which unveiled a fresh look at Joker: Folie à Deux. The post also confirmed that the first trailer will be released on April 9.
Expected to "break the mold of traditional musicals," Gaga will play Harley Quinn, joining returning Joker star Joaquin Phoenix in the new movie, who won an Oscar for his performance in the first installment. The new poster features the pair dancing during what appears to be a musical sequence in a jail cell, with the light from a window forming a spotlight.
Phoenix holds Gaga while wearing a tux and his classic Joker makeup and green hair, while the "Bad Romance" singer has his red face paint smeared over her lips. Gaga also dons Harley Quinn's signature eye makeup, while sporting a floor-length white gown.
A brief audio clip from the movie was also unveiled on TikTok. In the clip, Lady Gaga can be heard ominously whispering, "You can do anything you want. You're Joker."
The new poster comes after a report that the movie is "mostly a jukebox musical," with Gaga and Phoenix covering at least 15 "very well-known songs." Songs expected to be featured in the flick include Judy Garland's "That's Entertainment," which she sang in the 1953 movie musical The Band Wagon.
Aside from the leading couple, no other actors have been formally confirmed to be in the movie. However, Hildur Guðnadóttir is speculated to be reprising her role from the first movie in this new picture.
The trailer will seemingly drop in conjunction with CinemaCon, which kicks off on April 8 in Las Vegas. It is speculated that another look at the Wicked movie, starring Gaga's "Rain On Me" collaborator Ariana Grande, will also be revealed, after the first footage debuted there last year.
Aside from the new Joker music, Lady Gaga also seems to be gearing up for a new album cycle of her own. She has said she is "working as fast as she can" on new material, which she calls some of her "best music" in a long time.
"I can't remember a time I was so happy on my bday. I am in love with my best friend, my family and friends are loving and kind and healthy. I feel like my heart is bursting with gratitude for my own health and MUSIC-I am writing some of my best music in as long as I can remember our movie Joker 2: Folie à Deux is coming out soon," she updated her Little Monsters in a new post on her birthday.
While details on her seventh studio album are being kept under wraps, the "Born This Way" songstress has been sharing a look inside her songwriting process on social media, frequently posting shots with her guitars and keyboards, also writing lyrics on a typewriter in her bed.
"Thank you thank you thank you for loving me the way you do and for having such a real love for my songs-I've been writing pop songs since I was a little girl I can't believe I still get to do what I love," she said in the caption.
