Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix are set to captivate audiences with their singing as Harley Quinn and Joker in the upcoming movie Joker: Folie à Deux.
With Lady Gaga's involvement, the decision to make the film a musical would appear to make sense. Now, more details about the musical aspect of Joker: Folie à Deux have emerged.
Lady Gaga Sings Covers in 'Joker 2'
Variety reports that Joker 2 is leaning heavily towards becoming "mostly a jukebox musical" because Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix will sing at least 15 covers of "very well-known songs" in the film. Among the songs is "That's Entertainment" from Judy Garland's 1953 musical The Band Wagon.
Insiders have also divulged that there might be a spot for two original songs in the film. An original song written and sung by Lady Gaga could instantly become a front-runner at the Academy Awards. She previously won an Oscar for Original Song in 2018 for "Shallow." She was also nominated in 2016 for "Til it Happens To You" and 2023 for "Hold My Hand."
Reportedly, Hildur Guðnadóttir reprises her role as a composer on Joker 2.
While jukebox movie musicals are fairly standard these days, Joker 2 is "expected to break the mold of traditional musicals."
As of this writing, the plot and the premise of Joker: Folie à Deux are still unknown, even to movie insiders. The cast includes Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, and Brendan Gleeson.
